Decomposing turkeys! 🦃 Mrs. Tinkoff's class had a blast making turkeys to five! They started by shaking and spilling red and yellow counters, then used them to fill their five frames. Next, they built their way to make five using turkey feathers, and created the cutest little turkeys to show off their hard work. It was a fun and creative way to practice their math skills while celebrating the season! 🍂

Last week, Central's first grade classes teamed up with the fifth graders for a special buddy reading activity! Kindergarten classrooms are poppin'! 🍿 Students concluded their ELA unit on the 5 senses with a fun and delicious popcorn taste test! Students got to experience popcorn in a whole new way while they air-popped the kernels and used each of their senses to describe what they saw, smelled, heard, tasted, and touched, creating an anchor chart of their findings. Check out their creative popcorn crafts, which made this activity even more special. Such a tasty way to celebrate the culmination of their ELA unit! 🍿

First grade classrooms had the honor of welcoming parents from Room 100 who work in healthcare to teach about their amazing jobs last week! They had a neurologist, an OBGYN, a paramedic, a retired nurse and a nutritionist come in to share about their important and inspiring work. Students got to color pictures of the human brain, take home tongue depressors, and ended the day sharing what they are grateful for and watching Macy's day parade. This was a perfect way to wrap up their unit on the human body and its systems! A big shoutout to these parents for sharing their time and expertise with our little learners. 🚑 🏥

This week, kindergarteners explored their sense of taste and touch! They learned how these senses not only help us enjoy the world but also protect us from harm.
Students participated in a taste test and sampled sweet, salty, bitter, and sour treats, rating their favorites and discovering how each flavor is unique.
They also engaged in a touch challenge! With blindfolds on they practiced identifying objects by touch alone, sharpening their sensory skills and having a blast in the process!
